Every December, we host our annual holiday bag campaign in memory of our friend and colleague Karin Moody. Karin was a former Food Outreach staff member who passed away well before her time. So it is in her honor that we dedicate this day as a “Day of Karin”.
On December 8, thanks to the assistance of many volunteers, staff and board members, we filled 800 holiday bags for the men, women and children we serve that are living with HIV/AIDS or cancer. We filled the bags with the following items that provide warmth and comfort, both inside and out. A holiday bag from Food Outreach is often the only gift our clients receive.
On November 11, Lafayette Chiropractic Center graciously hosted their first “Soups On” event, offering an evening of rustic salads and hearty soups with the proceeds benefiting Food Outreach! They also collected canned good items which we are using in our Grocery Center for our clients. The event was a great success and we had the opportunity to meet so many lovely and friendly people. Thank you April Breeden and Dr. Crystal L. Peairs, D.C. for your kindness and all of your support for our mission!
For the past 10 years, St. Louis Bicycle Works has organized the annual Cranksgiving food drive and family friendly bicycle ride to benefit Food Outreach. The 2016 ride brought in 13,586 collected items (assorted cans, boxed cereal, etc.) and $1,322 in cash was donated at the Food Outreach table! This food will help support our clients for 3 to 4 months! Thank you to the BWorks staff, volunteers, and the hundreds of generous riders who make Cranksgiving such a fun event each year. We also wish to thank the other event partners…Bailey’s Restaurant Group, the Alpine Shop, Tiny Little Monster (who donated $560 to us from the event), the Hub Bicycle Shop, all of the participating grocery stores (Save-A-Lot, Fields Foods, Aldi, Lucky’s Market, and Shop ‘n Save) and the City Museum. Many, many appreciations to each of you for your kindness and support of those in our community who are not only afflicted with HIV/AIDS or cancer, but also struggling to find the food and nutrition they need.
SPARKLES AND SPIRITS
The Diamond Shop hosted a month long canned food drive throughout the month of October, culminating in their first ever Sparkles and Spirits party on October 27, with all of the proceeds benefiting Food Outreach. Every time a customer stopped by their store at 12 N. Central in Clayton and donated either 10 canned goods or a $10 donation, they were entered to win a Tag Heuer Carrera chronograph watch retailing for $5,400! We had a lovely time partnering with them, and as a result of their food drive and party, they collected 463 cans and $760 in cash! We truly appreciate the Diamond Shop for their generosity and support of our mission.
